When Milton Leslie Vanderhoff was born on September 3, 1910, in Horseheads, New York, his father, Byron, was 27 and his mother, Ina, was 26. He married Virginia A Ketchum and they had one son together. He then married Lora Catherine Jones on June 20, 1940, in Elmira, New York.

Milton was a letter carrier with The U.S. Post Office in Elmira Heights and Elmira. He and his wife owned and operated the family farm on Vanderhoff Road which was begun by Milton’s ancestors shortly after The Revolutionary War for several years.

He died on September 4, 2002, in Elmira, New York, at the age of 92, and was buried in his hometown.

VANDERHOFF, Milton L.

Age 92 of 11 Vanderhoff Road Elmira, NY passed away on Wednesday September 4, 2002 at The Chemung County Nursing Facility. Mr. Vanderhoff was born September 3, 1910 in Elmira, New York, the son of the late Byron and Ina Mae Van Zile Vanderhoff. He married his wife, Lora Catherine Jones Vanderhoff, on June 20, 1940 and she pre-deceased Milton on December 14, 1991. Milton was also pre-deceased by his son, Gerald Vanderhoff, on May 27, 1988.

Mr. Vanderhoff was a retired letter carrier with The U.S. Post Office in Elmira Heights and Elmira. He and his wife owned and operated the family farm on Vanderhoff Road which was begun by Milton’s ancestors shortly after The Revolutionary War for several years.

Mr. Vanderhoff is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Yvonne & Fred Kepler of Columbia, SC; sons and daughters-in-law: Leslie (Buster) & Catherine (Cookie) Vanderhoff and Larry & Audrey Vanderhoff all of Elmira, NY; and former daughter-in-law Mary (Cherry) Vanderhoff Hooper of Huntsville, Alabama; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Van Buskirk-Lynch Funeral Home Mill St. & Grand Central Ave. Horseheads, NY on Sunday September 8, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mr. Vanderhoff’s Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday September 9, 2002 at 11AM. The Rev. Sidney S. Aldrich will officiate. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads, NY. Flowers are acceptable or those wishing may remember Mr. Vanderhoff through memorials to The Chemung County Nursing Facility Residents’ Activity Fund 103 Washington Street Elmira, NY 14901.

Mr. Vanderhoff’s Family wishes to thank the Staff of The Chemung County Nursing Facility and especially the 5th Floor Staff for their compassionate care of their father and grandfather.
