Some Trouble At the Marion Hotel.

Chillian F. Vanderhoff, employed in the U. S. watch factory, and a boarder at the Marion House, appeared before Justice Aldridge yesterday morning and made an affidavit to the following purport: That about seven o’clock, on the morning of the 19th instant, at the Marion Hotel, a man named Charles Waller (connected with the hotel) threatened to injure deponent, and committed a violent assault by using violent, obscene and threatening language, and said that he would put a spot on deponent if it was not in five years. Further, that on the 20th inst., in the dining-room of the Marion Hotel, said Waller again assaulted deponent, and threatened to mash his face and shook his fist in the face of deponent, saying he would get square with deponent, and further, that said threats and assaults are without any cause or foundation whatever. Upon the above complaint a warrant was issued and the accused was arrested by constable Klein. Upon being taken before Judge Aldridge, Waller entered into $200 sureties to answer at the next term of the Court.

The famous Vanderhoff fruit farm west of the city was the scene last evening of a good old-fashioned “harvest party” and the occasion was one of unalloyed enjoyment for the three hundred guests present, who gathered from the surrounding country, and from this city. But for the inclemency of the weather there would have been many more present, as the fame of the hospitality of the family is wide.

Many were conveyed from this city and Elmira Heights in the carryall from Parson’s livery. Many more went in private carriages.

The program of entertainment had been arranged, largely with a view to outdoor amusements, a large uncovered dancing platform having been erected, and the spacious grounds beautifully illuminated by many lights which were supplied by two large acetylene gas generators.

Unfortunately, however, a drizzling rain began early in the evening and interfered to some extent with the plans of the hospitable entertainers. The large farm house was thrown open and cards and other games indulged in until 11 o’clock when it was found that the weather had cleared sufficiently to permit dancing. Many of the younger members of the party repaired to the pavilion and enjoyed dancing until midnight when a sumptuous collation was served. The waiters were young men attired in harvest costume and the menu was made up in great part of the products of the harvest of the farm.

Chilian F. Vanderhoff the genial host was master of ceremonies and his wit and humor and liveliness and some of relatives were unsurpassed even by the youthful guests who were younger in years but not in spirit.

After the supper many of the guests resumed dancing which was continued until an early hour this morning, when all departed, hoping for a repetition of the event next year.
