Emma May Green was born in 1870, daughter of Elias Green and Caroline E Butler Green. Emma’s father was a Civil War Veteran who served with Company H, 15th Regiment, New York Volunteers.

In 1892, Emma married William Michael Holmes Roe, son of Daniel B Roe and Margaret Martha Vanderhoof Roe. Emma and William Michael had five children; Christina D (1893-1966, m. Claude E Bush), Leslie Elias (1894-1936), Celia Pearl (1895-1983, m. Kenneth Henry Inscho), Glen Daniel (1897-1978), and Clarence F (1903-1991).

Emma worked at home, keeping house and raising the children as well as working on the farm. Emma was also an accomplished seamstress. After her husband passed, she took care of the farm herself.

Emma died in 1958 and is buried with her husband at Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads, Chemung, New York.
