Harriet “Hattie” L Ball was the second child and second daughter of George Edward and Sarah Elizabeth Yatman Ball. She was born and raised in Hardyston and lived with the family until her Marriage in 1896.

Hattie married Johnathan Crossman Stephens of Devonshire, England on April 2, 1896. Johnathan was previously married to Lizzie Bishop and brought four children to the marriage; Elsie, Lucy L, John and Lizzie. Hattie and John would also add four children of their own; Winfred, Esther, Harriet Virginia and Richard.

After John’s death in 1924, Hattie continued to live in their home until sometime between 1930 and 1940. In 1940 she is listed as living with her daughter Harriet V and her family in Pompton Lakes, Passaic, New Jersey.

Hattie passed away on June 23, 1948 and is buried with her husband at North Hardyston Cemetery in Hamburg, Sussex, NJ.
